British Airways - 148 million pounds of losses

 British Airways reported in the second quarter of 2009 gross loss of 148 million pounds. During the same period the previous year, the company earnings amounted to 37 million pounds - has informed the BBC. An operating loss amounted to 94 million pounds and operating profits for comparison for the same period last year amounted to 35 million pounds.

 

Corporate Income in the last quarter fell 12.2 percent. to 1 billion 983 million pounds. While the revenue from passenger traffic declined by 12.5 percent., A drop in global demand for air freight company's revenues fell 28.1 percent. Other airlines such as Air France-KLM and Lufthansa, which this week reported a decrease in revenues, are feeling the effects of the slowdown in the economy.  British Airways shares threaten to protest the cutting of costs by reducing employment. Head of the company said earlier that the savings are necessary for the survival of the company. In June he asked the thousands of staff that have worked for free, even months, to prevent its collapse.
